The fact that they're their own franchises doesn't mean that the Mario name isn't being milked for all its worth. Also, I'm not saying that SE doesn't milk FF, I just think that Mario is the more egregious offender. Furthermore, Zelda is starting to tread a slippery slope with Link's crossbow training. I hope they don't continue down that path.

How? As Garcian said, six Mario games (seven if you count Smash Bros.) vs. twelve Final Fantasy games, many of which are remakes or re-releases. Half a dozen genres versus, to be very generous, three. There is no reasonable way to look at those numbers and conclude that Nintendo's practices are more egregious. They release a smaller number of newer, more varied games. Period.

Many of SE's releases are remakes, and the line between milking and fan service is very fine, but that's not my point. I recognize that SE milks their franchise, but as you pointed out, the Mario name is spread across 6 genres. The original Mario was a platformer, meaning there are 5 genres he is in where he does not belong. That my friend, is milking.

This is honestly bizarre. The fact that the Nintendo's Mario games are admittedly varied and reasonably spaced is somehow proof that Nintendo is milking Mario?
I don't think you really understand the concept, as the above is diametrically opposed to milking. They're not rehashing the same gameplay or re-issuing the same game. Instead they're expanding, at a reasonable rate of release - except when it comes to Mario Party, where they are very clearly milking the core gameplay.

I understand perfectly, and think that it is you who doesn't, but since that argument will never go anywhere I'll just leave it at that.
Q: What does Mario have to do with an ancient Greek athletics contest?
A: Absolutely nothing!
There is only one reason to put Mario in a game based on the Olympics, and that is to increase sales of that game. Without Mario's and Sonic's names in the title that game would have struggled to sell a million. If you can explain to me how that does not constitue milking I'd love to hear it.
