| Mummelmann said: It looks like the Switch 2 pricing strategy was a bit of a miss - with the console market being in dire condition overall (yes, in spite of the PS5s record month in Europe, things are rather grim overall), there's no proper room for several expensive machines aimed at similar demographics. And, as someone mentioned above me; it will only get worse. |
I think they made a mistake on the specs, there is no real need for Switch 2 to be able to run games like Assassin's Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws, first, AAA games will either not come out on Switch 2 at all or be late ports, which means those games will always sell mediocre on Switch 2 and it also means those AAA third party games won't lead to any increase in the appeal of Switch 2. If they had worse specs on Switch 2, that would be enough for Nintendo's own software (Which is the only real draw of Nintendo consoles) as well as making it an easier buy for families due to the price of the Switch 2 being lower. Nintendo should just have made a Switch 2 a system that is an upgrade for Nintendo games as well as playing indie games better than Switch 1 did, launching a system that is able to run some AAA games is just a waste, because those games will still only be bought on PS and Steam, where the audience for those games are.
As of now, Nintendo went with a strategy to get people that like AAA games into Switch 2, that won't be succesful because AAA fans will still not care about playing those games in a downgraded 30 fps fashion on Switch 2, they will just buy them on PS and PC instead. Nintendo's own games obviously doesn't even need the Switch 2 specs, because they will not use stuff like DLSS and all the other things that the Switch 2 is capable of.
