Thinking more about it, review structures and scoring systems have also changed quite a bit from 2007 to 2025.
For example, compare Skyward Sword (Metacritic 93 for the original Wii game) to Skyward Sword HD (Metacritic 81.) There was a period from about 2005 until maybe 2014 or so when games tended toward very high scores (partly because more reviewers used a % scale back then.)
I think in terms of quality (from what I've seen of gameplay and am reading in the reviews) this looks a lot more like Prime 2/3 and Fusion in terms of quality than Other M (which is generally considered overrated at 79%, these days.)
It's a more linear, more action-centered, less Metroidvania style entry in the series, but that isn't something different from what we've had in the past (especially if you look at Fusion and Prime 3.)
I suspect if this game released on Wii U in 2015 it would score in the high-80's/low-90's. Or if Prime 3 released today, it would score in the low-to-mid 80's.
Masterpieces like Prime 1, will get a high score regardless (hence why Prime Remastered got a consistently high score, unlike Skyward Sword HD) because they are timeless.
Hopefully the more hand-holdy sections of this pay off, and the game sells well, so that we can get a MP5 that is a bit more ambitious.
