I obviously was talking about sales, because sales is the entire context lol, it's crazy to assume anything else. Playstation dominates the Switch in total software sales (mtx/subs included). They're not close even without COD (which you foolishly tried to say it's the only PS game that mattered). Nintendo dominates in merchandise and 1st party software. Every brand is doing their own thing but Switch, Steam, and PS do indirectly compete. Playstation somehow remains super strong despite the lack of true exclusives (its more compelling software will be divided across multiple platforms, limiting the hardware/plarform sales potential). Nintendo is super strong due to PC/console handheld monopoly and an unrivalled 1st party software that you cannot play anywhere else. PS isn't required to match Nintendo's 1st party output or sales. Sony has a much stronger software competition within Playstation, and they don't care because it nets them a lot of money and ultimately makes PS the most consistent home console in history. Nintendo and Sony can both take routes that the other can't or won't dare. Thanks for mentioning mobile phones. Nintendo takes mobile gaming and non-gaming sectors into account in their profitability reports, whereas Sony's major mobile games count under Aniplex/SonyMusic. So they are different down to how they do the counting. Fate Grand Order made over 8 billion, and not a dollar of it goes under SonyGaming. |
The PS5 DOES NOT dominate the Switch in software sales. Why lie and make stuff up? Sony's gaming division does make more money than Nintendo overall due to...wait for it....MTX. How can a console with only one 10 million seller dominate in total software sales another console that has 21 10 million sellers? That makes no sense whatsoever. What you meant to say is they dominate in total gaming revenue( and I wouldn't say "dominate" either as they've lost a lot of money due to failed and scrapped projects), and this is, AGAIN, due to MTX. Without MTX, Sony's gaming division would be a failed business because no one is buying games for PS5, but they are making 100s of million in in-game purchases in COD(and also Fortnite and Roblox). Is that the win you were looking for? COD not being the only MTX game carrying PS5? They tried to make an MTX game of their own with Concord and that died in its crib.
More compelling software when you can't name one 20 million seller for PS5. The Switch has 9. Whatever you say buddy.
I know they don't have to match it. That's the beauty of MTX games. You don't need to sell 10s of million of copies of software. You can sell a couple million and make a billion or more a year off whales. Hell, you don't have to sell anything. The most expensive games are free. I've explained this multiple times already. Nintendo doesn't need to make MTX games because they move software. Sony does not. Without MTX Sony is dead in the water.
What are you trying pull here buddy? Both Sony and Nintendo take everything they make into their profitability reports. They count the same way. If it makes money, it's counted.
