2. Which goes to show just how much bigger Playstation is in "total software". Nintendo's traditional software is extremely top heavy, Playstation's is considerably more spread out because the software competition is on a whole other level. And you keep ignoring that Switch is at the end of its life whereas PS5 will continue to be a major platform for software for god knows how many years. PS comfortably beats Nintendo in traditional software, and dominates them in "total software" (including mtx and subscriptions). Nintendo beats them in hardware and dominates in merchandise and 1st party software.

4. What are you even disagreeing with? The purpose of hardware is to give you access to the platform. Software is obviously where the money is made, but it's not just traditional and 1st party software that matter. MTX, subscription, and 3rd party software are parts of the equation.

5 (and 6). Sorry but you're being delusional and disregarding all real data. COD tends to sell a fraction annually of Playstation first party games (combined), which in turn sell a tiny 10-17% of traditional software. Of the 300+ million traditional software PS sells annually, COD only sells 15~ million. If COD disappears, most of those players would look for games like Battlefield or Arc Raiders or anything competitive that involves shooting and is popular. The relevance of COD alone is overblown. Playstation >>> COD, and we're seeing this in real time with BO7 underperforming in a time where Playststion is looking to break new records in year 5. Playstation doesn't have a shortage of great and popular games that sell lol.

You're conflating "PS5 era" with the PS5 console btw. PS5 by itself is not confirmed more profitable than PS4. And mtx is not bigger on PS5 than PS4, where are you getting this BS from? But Sony doesn't care whether they're getting their money through PS4 or PS5, just like Valve not giving a fuck whether you're paying them through a GTX 1060 PC, a SteamDeck, or an RTX 5090 PC. You seem to have little understanding about how the Playstation business operates.

2. No one cares about total software. They care about total sales. What's the point in having a bunch of software no one buys? It's a waste of money to produce duds. These companies wish they could be "top heavy" like Nintendo where their biggest franchises could sell in the 10s of million every console generation, all while being significantly cheaper to produce as they don't use bleeding edge tech to make them. All these companies have their killer apps. Nintendo's flagship games are just more commercially successful by degrees of magnitude. Sony tried to copy Nintendo with Astrobot and it didn't go well( You have to pay your bills with money, not GOTY awards).

4. Except Nintendo is dominating the market without any of that. 3rd party games have NEVER carried Nintendo....EVER. They're on top of the gaming industry selling Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon. you're focused on variety, Nintendo is focused on success. Other companies have to do that other stuff because they can't get it how Nintendo gets it. It's Why Nintendo was able to bounce back when the N64, GameCube, and WiiU got wrecked.

5. Ok, name the games for PS5 that have sold 10 million copies and also 20 million copies? I'll wait( DO NOT include PC sales in those numbers either). COD is an MTX game. It doesn't need to do MK8D numbers to be successful. You think 10s of millions of people are playing Genchin Impact and Honkai Starrail? Hoyoverse makes nearly a billion a year with just a few million whales.

I was referring to "total software sales" not "total software available". Otherwise Switch has more games available on it than PS5 and apparently even PS4 (Switch's library is even more padded by garbage or unpopular software, I guess they don't count by your own logic). Yeah, anyone wishes to have Nintendo heavy hitter numbers. Now what? What does this add to the discussion? Astro Bot is doing well, not every game has to sell 10 million to warrant its existence. As a matter of fact... Sony not supporting smaller games enough is one of my major criticisms against them. Even Nintendo has several beloved games that fail to do huge numbers: Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, Metroid, Pikmin, Bayonetta (published), etc. Little Astro Bot is a blessing among Sony's games. Stellar Blade (published) is one of their better recent games as well. It's nice to have games like this.

Yeah, Nintendo is the king of 1st party software sales. So what? As a consumer, I'm more interested in quality/varied output that suit my taste. Playstation (and by extension Steam) offer a greater variety of popular and quality games, especially ones that I care about.

Information about individual game sales are scarce, and PS5 is in the middle of its life, so it's a pointless comparison. Sony's 1st party sales alone sell somewhere between 35-55%~ of Nintendo's annually, which is a healthy figure considering the low output and a rising focus on live service games like Bungie's and Helldivers, especially for a platform that excells at 3rd party games, mtx, and subscriptions. Subscriptions and mtx do in fact count. Tens of millions of gamers put countless money and hours into these and benefit the platform holders as much as traditional software would (as a consumer, I'm currently having a blast playing Where Winds Meet for free). So there is no reason not to factor them in. Playstation's strong 3rd party software is something Nintendo would love to have, because it's essentially free money that ensures the success and expansion of your platform. Apple and Google dominate mobile phones without any need for internally developed software, all companies would kill to have their positions. Valve is more or less the Google of PC gaming (except they have Counter Strike and are capable of making incredible games).

Playstation and Switch systems have different strengths and weakness, and both should continue to exist for a long long time provided their companies don't make major blunders. But you kept acting like nothing outside Nintendo and COD exists lol.
