Steam Machine price will not be subsidized and 'more in line with what you might expect from current PC market', says Valve

Some quotes that just seem hilarious,  'Sitting down on your couch and turning the steam machine on with your controller is something unique; you don't have this experience in the pc market'

Yeah, like I mentioned earlier, I think people have the wrong idea of the purpose of these machines and Valve's aim with them. They're not consoles, they're convenient form-factor PCs with some "hassle" taken away. I think it's just another portal (pun somewhat intended) into the Steam system and a probably a really good case and demo for SteamOS, most of all. Valve is a software company with a heavy PC lean, they're not gunning for the console market, and would likely fail at it if they did.

For me it is longetivity of the machine that is also the issue. This could be a large sum for something that feels outdated fast or will have more and more problems to run new games well. Only if it sells well the optimization will be embraced by devs.
