I don't think people are mad as much because Samus is not isolated, but mostly because Miles Mackenzie seems to be a character that is totally out of place in the Metroid universe. His cheappy Marvel humour is totally outdated - not funny at all if you ask me.
Metroid is the kind of game that you need to have the right atmosphere in order to take it seriously, so an atmphoshere breaker is definitely a minus. They are supposed to be in a hostile place away from civilization with their lives at risk, stupid jokes don't make any sense.
If he is just a 10-20 min NPC tutorial character who you forget for the rest of the game, then it's not as bad. But if he is there for most of the game people are right to complain.
Overall game looks really really good, so I'll be getting it regardless. |
There has been silly/cheap dialogue in the series before (Metroid Prime 3 comes to mind). Didn't stop it from being a great Metroid game. And even if this was a first for the series, so has been many other far more transgressive changes in pretty much every Metroid game over the last 23 years. Didn't stop them from being great games. Again, would be nice if you took a look at the OP ^^ |
Of course I read the OP, sure I agree there have been many well executed changes before (Other M is my favorite Metroid game),
but nothing else felt as out of place as this stupid 'funny' character.
don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
