I don't mean to intrude, but I just want to caution that Doom 64 plays quite awkwardly on N64. I've tried so many controller configurations and never found one that really works.

I would strongly recommend playing the game via the modern port by Nightdive. The revised control scheme lets the greatness of the game shine through.

Yeah maybe no Doom 64 then. If it controls like Goldeneye or Perfect Dark then I'll enjoy that. What exactly is wrong with the controls?

I actually love that classic Turok control scheme, where the C-buttons function as a second analog stick. I could never recreate that in Doom 64 though.

By default, you walk forward and backward and look left and right with the analog stick (or d-pad). And you strafe with the L and R shoulder buttons. It's not great. Now, you can tweak things by remapping buttons, but you can't remap the analog stick. So, if I recall correctly, that means you can never have forward/backward/strafe left/strafe right all on one stick or four-button group, and look on another. You don't need to look up/down anyway, but having separate zones for move and look is really important to me.

Also, and this is just a kick in the pants, your remapping isn't saved to memory when you turn off the system. You have to re-enter your changes each session.
