Switch will be the winner and i will declare it as such once it passes 156, you can do whatever you want to try to cope with that but your cope isnt going to change the facts sorry to say

You're the one who's coping and denying facts and reality.

I see both sides. I’m a pc gamer so have zero allegiance to a console but I will say this.

it is not a fact Sony sold 160m u its cause they haven’t provided the sales data to back it up. So I would say that Sony is claiming to have sold 160m. A claim isn’t fact.

if I was Nintendo, as soon as I passed 156m I would make the claim of “officially the best selling console of all time”. Put the onus on Sony to provide the proof otherwise. Which they won’t. How do I know - our company did the exact same thing to a competitor with the same results. (Not best selling sales and not consoles obviously, but a claim both companies wanted and both felt entitled to) Stakes were a Little different, lol. Think who’s got the biggest sow in the state fair in comparison. But it worked. And we planned if they actually pushed back to respond to take the title. It was win win for us.

why won’t Sony push back?  Because they would have to admit to creative accounting in financial statements if there actually were 5 mil in ps2 sales.

as someone that used to put together the annual reports for a 35b company (not the 90b of Sony, but still significant) I assure you those sales and dollars were not lost to space.  The sales of 5 mil either didn’t happen, were exaggerated or were used to inflate sales data in another area. What a company would never do is not report on the revenue from this ps2 sales,  so they are likely misrepresented as ps3 sales, or something else Sony wanted to make look better. Not necessarily a lie, but just lacking specifics to make an area struggling look good.

the timing of the claim of 160 is also suspect. But it makes sense from a motivating perspective. PlayStation is all Sony has now, trinitron tvs no longer sell, nor walkmans, media licensing fees in blurayvand dvd have gone the way of the dodo and their movie studio isn’t profitable. If they are essentially the playstaaation company it would make sense they would want to cling to the bet selling console title. And it could very well be true, just from. Business perspective it doesn’t make sense to produce 5 million stock of a product in 2012 and pay for the cost of storage/inventory when you have ps3 and ps4 in production but stranger things have happened.

regardless, if I was Nintendo, I would just make a counter claim as soon as 156 is reached. Pop a Little cash in marketing to make it a big deal and make the normies believe it and force Sonys hand to provide facts to their claim of 160.  If they don’t you own the “official best selling title” because Nintendo has the sales data and publicly available financial reports to back it up.

regardless. The whole topic is a little silly. Who cares.

good luck to both Sony aaand Nintendo. Keeps things interesting!
