Nintendo still has no meaningful competition of the kind that counts: competition for the Touch Generations line. Say what you will about other products doing stellar, but you can't deny that key entries in the Touch Generations line have a remarkably good track record of selling insane numbers of copies which are beginning to rival the generation-defining games of the 8- and 16-bit eras.

Until one of their competitors makes a truly effective response to Nintendogs, Wii Sports, and/or Wii Fit, I don't think Nintendo will have any trouble whatsoever capturing the market at large. Because, of course, the market at large means far more than it did before those three games came along. Just like the market at large meant far more once Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid came along.
