Metroid:Other M

This game got shunned en masse for its portrayal of Samus' "daddy" issues and her overall mental weakness.  While I admit that I am not a big fan of Other M's cringy story and cut scenes, the game itself was fantastic, imo.  I enjoyed the level design and puzzles and blasting through the morph ball tunnels was a lot of fun.

I don’t think you’re at odds with the consensus on this. The gameplay is arguably a ton of fun and the use of third person in a 3D Metroid game is very nice and I hope it happens again. Unfortunately Sakamoto had a very specific tone intended for Samus and her relationship with Adam (and…the baby…it hurts just to say that phrase) that were in direct contradiction to the character we had been in all the games preceding that one.

I remember enjoying the game, but locking the power bombs after the end of the game, the weak and artificial way they lock Samus abilities that make her seem more mindless soldier than heroic bounty hunter, and the terrible, terrible, terrible (I could go on) voice acting of a terrible script were too much for me to want to play it again, which is absolutely the opposite feeling I have when playing any other Metroid game.
