I see this question brought up a lot, but not with any criteria. So people generally go in one of two ways: heavy on quality-based games, or heavy on quantity based games... it depends on what kind of value you have, playing 10 games that have a 100,000 hours of new tasks to do, but have little to no emotional impact. And then there are those who pick a lot of high quality shorter games, or 10 games that amount to about 2-400 hours with very striking emotional experiences, well crafted stories, or gameplay moments.
I also see people cheating on these all the time, when the list asks for 10, about 30 are in the list chosen... it kind of defeats the purpose of the "desert island collection" if you have all of your favourite games with you. It means no sacrifice was made.
So, to mix it up a little, there are three rules:
1. Only 10 games may be selected, no runner-ups, or mentions of other games beyond the one you picked.
2. When the time listed below elapses, your game is over. If you want to play it again, you must do so from a blank state. Modifications must be done solely by the player, and they expend time. When the time runs out, any modifications are deleted and are irrecoverable. When the time expires, any online progress (direct and indirect) from you erases completely. So, you can pick "Witcher 3 Complete Edition" for your game number 5, but that means the game ends at the 40 hour mark. You can play it again as many times as you want, but every 40 hours you start from scratch.
3. You may pick groups of direct sequels or shared themed games for a single slot. But you always have to play them in order. This includes games like the DKC Trilogy, a single Pokemon generation, Ace Attorney trilogy, and Xenosaga trilogy. But this does not include loosely connected series like Super Mario Bros, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, etc... unless it is a direct sequel like FFX and FFX-2 or the FF13 trilogy. To clarify, if you pick the DKC trilogy, you always have to play it in order. If you pick Pokemon Generation 1, it's the order you list them, so you say "Blue and Red" you have to play through all of Blue before starting Red. If your time runs out, your progress resets to blank, and you have to start from the first game again.
