It is a game that is not for you: just accept this and move on with your life. It’s wavered around 79-80MC (and has say firmly at an 82OC), and the Pokémon fanbase is thrilled with the game from everything I can tell. And regardless of the this game's success, it is clear GF has listened to complaints, as seen by (i) what internal documents have revealed regarding future plans (e.g. their response to backlash against BDSP is to “fully remake” moving forward, Gen Nine of Pokémon will be among the first NS2 titles to be developed with an NS2 engine specifically in mind (and it’s looking reaaally good so far), Project Seed), how (ii) Z-A runs significantly smoother on NSW than all other NSW Pokémon games, and how (iii) bold Pokémon Co acted in developing this game, creating among the most experimental title in the franchise’s history.

That said, I feel I have reason to claim that your desire to see sales fall short commercially is not out of passion to see the franchise evolve— it is to see a franchise die. Not out of passion to see the studio and its devs prosper, but to follow a hate-driven bandwagon created by the internet. This is no different than me longing for the death of a game such as, for instance, Yakuza because the games are developed with a small budget and don’t receive the same love-and-care as something like God of War (2018). Or the death of Fortnite because of its highly predatory monetization strategy. Or, really, for the death of *any* gaming franchise because [insert issue].

I’m happy for those who are happy with their Pokémon game; you can simply move on if the game isn’t for you. It’s a big step up for the franchise in many many ways over previous NSW entries, and I’m glad to see such experimentation paying off.

Don't make nonsense accusations. Pokemon has historically been one of my favourite game series I have no desire for it to disappear. I want them to return to proper form and actually evolve with the times. If calling the biggest media franchise in the world out for having low budget, technically poor and antiquated titles is a hate-driven bandwagon then so be it. Frankly I think they should be doing better than being completely technically outclassed by almost every other developer of Switch exclusive titles when they're one of the biggest franchises in the world.

Even diehard Nintendo fans on this site call gamefreak out on their bullshit. That I think they should be far more ambitious with titles that will gross over a billion dollars is not some unreasonable demand. Most other developers put far more effort into their far smaller titles. Monolith craps all over them with what should be a tiny fraction of the resources that the developer of a pokemon game should have.

The issue with this logic is that it's only one way to look at things. Monolith makes excellent games just like the Zelda team but Pokemon's consistency is largely ignored to praise developers that release games every blue moon. It's nice that many consumers prefer them to slow down the cadence of releases in order to improve "quality" which is subjective but these critics don't get to speak for the entire userbase. Millions of consumers want content as soon as possible and if sacrificing prettier graphics or whatever helps them deliver more content then so be it, that's something Monolith and the Zelda team fail to deliver, consistent software. Pokemon has sold millions of more games than those franchises because of the consistency similar to Call of Duty. Call of Duty was able to catch and outsell Grand Theft Auto because GTA games take forever while CoD delivers content consistently like Pokemon.
