Switch 2 consoles, software and accessories are all cheaper in Japan however their sales tax is 10%. Here in the UK it is 20%, other European countries it varies. I'm unsure about the US and the current tariff situation and their sales tax but would assume a lot more than Europe. If Japan is paying £300 for the switch 2 solus pack with 10% sales tax that is like £270 before tax so really the UK price should be £330 but its more like £380. The US price is $450 and that works out at £335 but I don't know if sales tax is on top of that price and how much that would be. It's no surprise really that the European market is the first market to slowdown Switch 2 sales considerably as really we get the worse pricing. A lot of Europe has a lower disposable income than the US too. So they have probably priced too high in Europe and will have reduced sales figures because of it. It was in August that Europe went back to buying more PS5s than Switch 2s which was very quick after the Switch 2 launch.

Regarding the bolded, there is no federal sales tax, so sales tax will vary state to state, anywhere from 0% to 7%. Some cities will also add an extra tax for 'luxury items' that are deemed non-essential, but thankfully that's more rare. I paid about $530 for the $500 Mariokart bundle when I picked up a Switch 2.
