If the PS6 doesn't come till 2028 it will. I think the no price cuts is taking it's toll on the PS5. So far this year the sell-through gap has widened by about 1.7m in PS4's favour. It's still very close overall, 3.17m behind launch aligned, but it'll need that bit of extra time at the end to take the lead. Well depending on how many PS5's GTA 6 sells, we'll have to see what happens next year. No price cut has really hurt the PS5, especially in Europe. Otherwise it'd be easily beating the PS4. |
Yeah it seems this generation is going to last a year longer (at least on Sony's side). And PS5's production/shipments may not fall off a cliff several months before its successor is launched. There's also a huge room for effective pricedrops if the economy takes a turn for the better at one point before 2028, and Sony might choose to continue producing a decent number of PS5's alongside PS6 for a year or two (If the factories allow it, and it depends on whether or not they're going to have a Series S or Vita TV style PS6 SKU).
Finally, GTA6 and Xbox's sorry state speak for themselves. Though I think most Xbox fans will switch to PC instead, the whole "Xbox-PC" thing should help with that.
The more interesting question to me is PS5 vs PS6. I expect a significant decline, but maybe Sony will course correct and contain the situation.
