For the negative opinions:
- Final Fantasy 7 (Original) - It still remains my most overrated game of all time. Many aspects it was praised for had been done before in other RPGs that released prior to FF7. For example. The shocking death of a party member had already been done by Phantasy Star (PSII and PSIV) twice. The party size was scaled back to 3. The material system robbed characters of individuality outside of limit breaks, so there as no reason to use anyone by three strongest characters.
- GTA3 - I borrowed GTA3 from my brother and for about 90 minutes it was amazing. Once the shock factor wore off and I got to the actual game it self. I found it boring. I had more fun playing True Crime: Streets of LA and Sleeping Dogs.
For the postive opinions:
- Sleeping Dogs - It took everything the I liked about True Crime Streets of LA and cranked it to 11. The game was and still is excellent. Why the game wasn't a massive hit still boggles my mind today. The narrative, the combat, and the driving. It nailed everything. The graphics were very good for the time and honestly aren't that bad now.
- Guardians of the Galaxy - I know why this game failed. The Avengers was a debacle and GotG paid for it's sins. I was stunned at how good GotG was. The gameplay was good but not exceptional, but everything else a great. The graphics, animation, voice acting, it was all top tier. The interaction between Drax and Lady Hellbender still makes me laugh. Kudos to the devs for being able to create their own renditions of the characters that weren't just Temu versions of the movie cast. It was nice to see a version of Gamora that was more accurate to the comics.
