It has been a while since consoles took significantly different directions, but in this generation they've done so. In fact, not only have they taken different directions, but each console vendor has loudly proclaimed a different vision of what gaming should be. Nintendo has stuck to an idea of gaming as fun entertainment for everyone. Sony embraces the idea of gaming as a sensory extravaganza. Microsoft espouses gaming as a hormonal rush for the hardcore. The catalogs of each console reflect this, and in at least two cases the technology behind each console is largely built around it.
This leads a lot of people to believe that their choice of console might say more about them as a person than mere brand loyalty, and to be honest, I'm not sure they're wrong. But people get sensitive about things like that, and so rants become inevitable.
Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.
