Trump claims London’s mayor wants to impose Sharia law
Trump has now gone twice the time limit and is continuing to talk in a rambling, at times offensive speech.
He has just claimed that London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan – who is Muslim – has been trying to institute Sharia law.
“I look at London where you have a terrible mayor. A terrible, terrible mayor,” he said, adding that now he wanted to impose “Sharia law”.
“It’s really a different country, you can’t do that.”
Trump claims UN ‘funding an assault on Western countries and their borders’
The UN president has now taken aim at the UN apparatus that helps migrants.
Trump appeared to be referencing the International Organization of Migration (IOM), which provides support for migrants in dangerous situations and seeks to help stem irregular migration by working with local states to create more humane legal pathways.
He accused the UN of “funding an assault on Western countries and their borders”.
“The UN is supporting people that are illegally coming into the United States, and then we have to get them out. The UN also provided food, shelter, transportation and debit cards to illegal aliens,” Trump said.
He appeared to be referring to the IOM’s assistance disbursement cards, through which they sometimes provide aid. The IOM also transports individuals based on local needs and coordination with governments, but do not aid individuals in irregularly migrating across borders.
Trump says he thought his relationship with Putin would have helped end the war
Trump has invoked the situation in Ukraine several times now. He noted that he thought it would be easier to end the war than it has proved to be because his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin “had always been a good one”.
He said Russia’s war in Ukraine is “not making Russia look good”.
Later, he excoriated EU nations for continuing to buy Russian oil and gas although most have made an effort to shift their reliance away from Russia.
