Air Ride was a game that had a lot of potential, but was marred by a wonky development process. This was before Melee, and Sakurai I guess didn't have the pull he does now. If for argument's sake I agree it's a B tier franchise, that doesn't mean it always will be. A lot of franchises started as kind of small, but then blew up. For example, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, and you can make an argument for Zelda. So, maybe they think this can be that breakout moment for Kirby. Besides, it seems like this is the sort of thing Sakurai likes doing, and it's not like it would cost that much, so why not just let him get a camera and ramble for a little bit. |
