He cited a decision made by Gavin Newsom, now the governor of California, in 2004, when, as mayor of San Francisco, he defied federal law and issued marriage licenses for same-sex couples.

I dont generally disagree with him here, but I worry it will cost him votes. Which has always been the Democratic Party's problem as they often feel they have to go with the safe option. We'll see how it plays out.
