That situation seems REALLY odd. For them to go through trouble of getting the MIT license indicates that they were planning to release it open source. If there was no license, I'd be more inclined to think it was an accident. Did they plan to release initially, change their minds, and forget to pass along the memo? I'm curious to see what the modding community does with INT8 implementation of FSR4 they were working on for RDNA3.
Now that I think about it, is it possible they still plan to release this alongside FSR4 Redstone? AMD may be holding off on the INT8 version of FRS4 until Redstone drops. The rationale being AMD knows FSR4 is biggest selling point of RDNA4 at the moment and if they implement it on RDNA3 before Redstone drops, they lose that selling point. With their APUs still being based on RDNA3, 3.5 to be more specific, they have motivation to get a version of FSR4 working on RDNA3. If Intel didn't have their heads up their collective you know whats', they could really take advantage of AMD APUs only having FSR3. XESS/XESS 2.0 is significantly better than FSR3 and their APUs can run it. Even the DP4a fall back version XESS looks better than FSR3.
I'll spare you all any more of my incohorent rambling. I'm going back outside to yell at clouds like the rest of the fossils
