Zelenskyy was asked what is needed for an agreement — he replied about a strong Ukrainian army, and Trump added that Ukraine would receive protection similar to that of NATO countries.

So let me get this straight, Ukraine isn't allowed into NATO because Russia doesn't want it and Russia invaded Ukraine because they were about to be allowed into NATO but Ukraine will receive protection similar to NATO's Article 5?

It makes no sense, it's either a massive contradiction or you know that the "similar protection" means jack shit in reality just like the Budapest Memorandum, if you want to give Ukraine Article 5 like protections then there's literally zero reason to not allow Ukraine into NATO, it would the same damn thing, unless you're bullshitting and it's not the same thing.

US and Russian aligned countries do not want Ukraine in Nato. Not for their own sake Article 5 doesn't say commit everything you have to begin with. You could fulfill article 5 by sending some helmets and bullets anyway. They do not want it because they don't want a coalition of the willing to act when Russia takes the rest of Ukraine. NATO is also holding back up France and UK.
