I prefer the discs. Why waste time and HDD space to digitize them?

Besides discs going bad as Zkuq pointed out, space can also be another reason. It's far less bulky to have a NAS or an HTPC with several drives than all those discs and cases.

Besides it's also easier to load 2, 3 or as many movies as you want in a laptop to watch them in long travels (assuming you're not driving, of course).

I still have my physical discs, they are just in storage... Due to licensing legalities, I would have to delete my digital copy if I got rid of my physical.

The main benefit on why I am digitizing is A.I upscaling to improve visual quality.
1080P Blu-Ray and especially DVD's look extremely soft on an 85" 4k OLED... I can also apply a HDR pass to really let the colours and contrasts pop.
Gotten some good results on older DVD TV show boxsets that I loved like Buffy, StarGate etc'.

I try to buy UHD releases wherever possible, but not all films are guaranteed a release on that platform, UHD is generally just a straight rip unless it's a poor release like The Matrix/Pirates of the Caribbean where I might do a few extra passes to restore original colour grading and stuff.

I don't fly back until the 5th... But you may actually own more games on just Steam than I do on Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Playstation 2, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, NES, SNES, N64, WiiU, Switch, DS, 3DS, Mega Drive -and- Steam, combined.

Absolutely crazy amount. Will do a count when I get home.

Definitely slowed down my game purchasing to just games I wish to play these days though.
