@CourageTCD I'd imagine it was a pretty steep drop for Switch 1 even in the Americas and Europe, considering they likely shipped at least close to 6m Switch 2s worldwide just in June. When the Switch 1 shipped that many worldwide in a quarter outside the holidays, it was during the pandemic and covered 3 whole months. Even though it is practically guaranteed to pass DS, I would also be disappointed if it didn't pass PS2. I do hope they have enough in the tank to get it there. It's still possible. This feels different than Wii VS PS1 because passing PS1 wouldn't have made it the best selling home console. With DS VS PS2, people would just say that it doesn't count because the DS was exclusively a handheld and priced significantly lower (at least at first). Switch 1 is obviously a handheld but can also be a home console (or vice-versa). I personally mostly use mine as a home console (or rather my Switch 2 nowadays).
Plus this is likely the only good shot for a long time someone will have to take the PS2's crown, and it would be great marketing for the Switch 2 and future Switch systems to say that they are successors to the best selling game system of all time. Records are meant to be broken.
