They've hit a ceiling in terms of profit gain which is why they've started releasing outside of the Playstation ecosystem like Microsoft is with the Xbox ecosystem.
The two biggest ways they can increase their profit is by doing multiplatform releases and unfortunately cutting people's jobs (which Microsoft is doing both).
Its pretty much the worst aspect of capitalism and I can see more and more companies doing it on other markets/industries - Warner Brothers is already doing it cutting jobs and releasing their previously exclusive titles from HBO Max onto other services like Netflix.
Pretty much the ugliest side of capitalism (as far as people getting their jobs sacrificed).
