From Atari 2600 all the way up to PS3, I don't remember anyone wanting a pro anything. Now suddenly, they (as in the industry, not just Sony) want me to believe this is necessary? I imagine the idea behind it is pretty simple. Bump the specs up, make people think the added cost is equal to the bump when in fact it's not, bring in higher profit margins than you were before and reap the (financial) benefits. Because honestly, there is no other reason for any of this. None of it makes sense.

It's pretty much just a way to get convince people that they need to buy a new console twice instead of once per gen.

Why settling for selling people a $500 console when you can sell them a $500 console now, and a $700 Pro model a few years later?
