I think it just needs some time, since it's definitely not in an unfixable state. Now the question is how much time it's going to get if things keep being a bit rough. I don't think the developers are going to be making anything more profitable any time soon, so as long as it's profitable or doesn't bleed too much money, it'll probably get more time for the turnaround. For me personally it's already more fun than the first game, but I've liked it since launch anyway, and even I've got to admit it's quite uneven compared to the first one which was fairly consistent.
