| Soundwave said: no one is saying it looks better than PS5 Pro ... the fact that it's that close is an embarrassment to the PS5/PS5 Pro if anything. Home consoles are in big trouble IMO in the long run. When things like that Portable PS6 model release, Portable XBox, Steam Deck 2, and quite probably a Switch 2 Pro it's going to become more and more obvious you can play all the same games and still have them look "good enough" on a device that is both a home + mobile device. A lot of people are going to opt to not even buy the standard "giant brick" PS6. Watch and see, a sea tide shift is coming. When I see that video I see that hybrid form factor is gonna be the future. It may not all be from the Switch 2, but if that's what the Switch 2 can do, then these future portables from XBox and that rumored PS6 Portable make you wonder, not to mention a possible Switch 2 Pro this gen, Steam Deck 2, etc. As more and more regular gamers realize the tier of game they can play on mobile/hybrid devices I think a not insignificant portion of them are going to start asking "why do I even need the giant brick Playstation console that can only stay stuck to my TV?". |
Because a large portion of gamers is simply not interested in mobile gaming.
Why have an awkward device, waste money on an extra screen and settle for sub optimal resolution and frame rate when you can have a brick under the tv connected to AV system and enjoy games in Dolby Atmos / 7.1 surround on a 83" 4K HDR OLED.
Every time a new mobile device comes out a sea tide shift is supposed to be coming. How many times have we not heard mobile phones are catching up / good enough to play games. Steamdeck (6 million sold out of 1.86 billion PC gamers) didn't shift the PC market which is even more stuck to giant bricks.
Nintendo already had the audience that's fine with lower fidelity and folded those into their Hybrid. But maybe the Series S gaming segments might opt more for Switch 2, if MS can get gamepass on it. The Series X and PS5 crowd will still be looking forward to 4K60 high fidelity games. Not gonna be satisfied with 30fps or upscaling from low base resolutions or extra input lag for frame insertion.
Nah consoles are fine, streaming is not catching on either. (extra lag, lower fidelity) Switch 2 will do fine as well, not sure if it will outpace the Switch though.
