Probably a restock? Switch did better this week, than it did during one of the two holiday weeks. In fact, PS5 looks like it is closer to dying off than Switch is. To me it looks like Switch 1 is remaining a Minecraft device in Japan, and this may include a few other non-core Nintendo games like Switch Sports. Switch hardware sales are holding firm, and Minecraft is moving towards the top of the charts for evergreen titles. Minecraft fans would prefer a Switch 1 over a Switch 2 until the game gets ported over. Also, for most of the past 8 years, Mario Kart 8 has been charting as the top evergreen, but now it may permanently shift to Minecraft. Minecraft only got a 9% boost this week, but it is solidly ahead of Mario Kart 8, which means it sold well during the holiday weeks too. Mario Kart fans are likely holding out for Switch 2, so it is interesting to see how the sales charts adapt to that. |
I mean there are only so many people in Japan that:
1: Are into home consoles (Which have declined in popularity for a long time in Japan).
2: Are willing to pay 70K Yen for a home console.
So those two things naturally lead PS5 to not have much further sales left in Japan.
