I love how they spelled Tales of Phantasia with an F (Tales of Fantasia...ROFL).

Anyway, mothership titles are the main series in the Tales series. The mothership titles include Phantasia, Symphonia, Eternia (also known as Destiny II in the West), Destiny, Destiny 2 (this is different from Destiny II. Destiny II is Tales of Eternia but Destiny 2 is the sequel to Destiny), Vesperia, Innocence, Vesperia, Rebirth, Abyss, Legendia, and now Hearts. They are "mothership", or main series.

Games like Tales of the World are spin-offs - not motherships. TotW doesn't have a 6-8 new character party like mothership titles. Instead, they have 1 or 2 main heroes (sometimes cutsomizable) and characters from other mothership titles appear as temporary party memember, and sometimes NPCs (most recent one is Radiant Mythology where you customize your character and you can meet up with characters like Lloyd, Kratos, Stahn, Rutee, Reid, etc.) There's also Tales of Fandom. Basically, they have lower budget and are less important than the motherships.

ToS: DotNW is kinda...strange. It's a spin-off but has main series qualities so I like to think

This new Wii Tales is mothership, so it's in the main series and as important as Vesperia or Hearts (though budget may not represent that).

Wonder what team will make it. Assuming Team Symphonia (who are making Vesperia currently and made Symphonia and Abyss) work on it immediately like they did from when they finished Abyss to start working on Vesperia, Team Symphonia might be the one making this. If not, then probably another team...

DotNW isn't strange at all.

I remember saying it was a spinoff ages ago on this forum and some Symphonia fanboys got angry, so I wrote out the Tales gaiden guideline and DotNW fit it perfectly. The only thing 'strange' thing is that it's the first console gaiden and it's a sequel to ToS - as suchthe fanboyshad a really hard time accepting that it's not Symphonia 2 and that it's not a main title.

I wouldn't be surprised if the monster breeding aspect was spun off into another subseries called Tales of Monsters or something, similar to how Narikiri Dungeon gave birth to Tales of the World.
