Yes and no. History is complex and multi-layered and you could speculate for ages. I do think they reinvented and brought a popularity to console gaming that would have been far more marginalized and different had Nintendo not come onto the scene. I think things would have likely just stemmed far more from personal computer and PC gaming, which would have eventually merged into devices for the TV, but home console gaming in the 90s and 2000s would have been far more obscure, and the 80s likely would have pretty much just been personal computers and arcades. The Sega stuff and likely most Sony and MS home consoles likely wouldn't have existed, or at least these companies would have released computer-based gaming machines instead.
