US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth shared information about US air strikes on Yemen in a second private group on the Signal app, the BBC's US partner CBS has confirmed with sources familiar with the messages.
The messages, sent on 15 March, included flight schedules for American F/A-18 Hornets carrying out strikes on Houthi targets. The group included Hegseth's wife, brother and personal lawyer.
The developments come a week after the existence of another group on the same messaging app was revealed. It discussed sensitive information about military operations.

US Senate opposition leader calls on Trump to fire Hegseth
US Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has denounced the latest revelation that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth had shared sensitive Yemen war plans in a second Signal group chat.
“The details keep coming out. We keep learning how Pete Hegseth put lives at risk,” Schumer, a Democratic senator representing New York, wrote on X.
He added that Trump “is still too weak” to fire the head of the Pentagon.
“Pete Hegseth must be fired,” he said.
White House spokeswoman dismisses report on Hegseth’s Signal group chat
In a statement sent to the Associated Press news agency, White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly dismissed the report that sensitive details on the US military operation in Yemen were shared with unauthorised parties on Pete Hegseth’s Signal group chat.
“No matter how many times the legacy media tries to resurrect the same non-story, they can’t change the fact that no classified information was shared,” the statement read.
Kelly also blamed disgruntled ex-employees of the Pentagon, saying: “Recently-fired ‘leakers’ are continuing to misrepresent the truth to soothe their shattered egos and undermine the President’s agenda, but the administration will continue to hold them accountable.”
