An interesting and rather concerning snapshot of gaming in Japan and the dominance of gacha games:

According to an annual online survey by Japan's SMBC Consumer Finance, a staggering 18.8% or nearly 1 in 5 Japanese people aged in their 20s have had trouble covering living expenses because they spent so much money on in-game purchases:

The rate was higher for men than for women, but it still applied to almost 1 in 6 women.

The survey also found that 17.9% of respondents said they would pay to have an in-game advantage, and over 20% said they "couldn't enjoy a game if I don't make in-game purchases"
