Having this as a launch title was a very smart move.

You gotta have that one show-stopper at launch to make your system a must have; BOTW on Switch, Wii Sports/Twilight Princess for Wii, Mario World on SNES, etc.

Mario Kart is now arguably Nintendo's biggest brand, and should help the hardware get off to a flying start.

I agree. I know some fans are disappointed about the lack of Super Mario, but I honestly think Mario Kart is the right game to highlight at launch.

It’s arguably Nintendo’s biggest IP, with a huge following in both enthusiast and “casual” circles. Plus it’s a multiplayer title, which will encourage people to recruit their friends and invest in NSO.

I have a regular weekly Mario Kart online game night with my family. My wife, brother, niece, and nephew all have a Switch and a copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I’m the only one with a copy of Super Mario Odyssey. I know this is wholly anecdotal, but I suspect this dynamic is fairly common.
