Yeah I do hope there's an option in custom races at least to start on the circuit rather than drive to it. The final race in that GP is wario shipyard (3DS), except it's not because 2 laps are just driving to it and then you only do one lap of the track lol. It feels like a bigger deal for retro tracks for me, if I want to enjoy some moo moo meadows I want 3 laps of it, not 2 laps on new track leading to it and then 1 on the track I remember and want to actually play.
The first track in the GPs is 3 laps of the circuit so I imagine the driving between is only in GP and the modes where you can freely pick any track instead of driving consecutive connected ones will spawn you on the circuit itself.
