If you love Mario Kart and have the money it's absolutely worth it. Two years later is two years you could've been enjoying a new experience with near infinite replay value that can only be played on one device.

Will the shelf life of Mario Kart be reduced because you held off on purchasing it for two years? Probably not, so it's worth waiting. The Mario Kart user base only grows over time, so even for online matchmaking, it’s actually better to wait a bit.

It's different with games like Splatoon and Animal Crossing, which have timed events and updates so it’s better to get those as soon as possible to enjoy the seasonal events

Yeah, and by the time you've waited for a cheaper price and all those games to stack up, you won't be able to achieve all those timed events or whatever in other games. Those 2-3 years of time will be lost, you'll be constantly having to choose which game you want to prioritise and won't be able to fully enjoy all of them.

If there's a game you want to play now you should buy it while you have the time to enjoy it. It's unlikely there will be any gaps in Switch 2's release cycle, so the games you likely want to play will be coming regularly.

Time is far more valuable than money.
