In light of recent news about Nintendo Switch 2 pricing, I'd like to remind everybody about the prices for the original Nintendo Switch that everybody complained about when it was revealed.

$299.99 for a console, no pack-in game
$59.99 for games, with the designated tech-demo game costing $49.99
$79.99 for pair of Joy-Con, $49.99 ala-carte
$69.99 for a Pro Controller

I distinctly remember everybody b****ing about these prices when they were first announced, before everybody got over it once we saw the system and games more. I'm not defending some of the Switch 2 price decisions (Mario Kart and the Welcome Tour specifically) but people should remember this next time they complain about console prices.

Because Nvidia practically gave Nintendo a ton of chips they had left over and couldn't sell for free (at break even point).
Switch 1, shouldn't have launched at 299$.
That was Nintendo being greedy for 50-100$ profit margins on hardware console sales.

I think the Switch 2, selling in Japan for 335$ shows, that they can sell it at that amount and not lose money on sales.
So why is it 450$ in rest of the world? Greed. Nintendo arn't happy just selling their hardware and not loseing money on each sale.
They want to make profits selling the console as well.

Nintendo MILK their costumers more than Xbox or Playstation does.
Nintendo games skimp on alot of stuff, that the others can't.
Text bubbles (no voice acting), not going for realistic graphics which is much easier and cheaper to develope ect.
And it still wants 80-90$ pr game now?  F*** off.

This is too much imo.

*IF* Nintendo wasn't as greedy as it is, I bet they could have had a 200million console seller in the 1st switch.

And Honestly these prices could hurt them, they are high enough I'm not sure it'll repeat the 1st switch's success (ei. pass 140m)

*edit:

Switch 2 is able to play Switch 1 games.
So you think, great, its more powerfull maybe it can run them at more consistant fps, or resolutions? or there is some patch you download and it runs better! right?
Yeaah.... guess what? You pay for that.  Upgrade Packs are what they call them (ei. small patches for games, that others would give out for free).

Even the tutorial game (mini game) that teaches you about the tech, in the Switch 2, and how its used.... costs money.
Remember when Astrabot was this small mini game that was free? a tiny game like that, on the Switch 2, will cost money.
Its like selling a product, and then going "if you want the manual on how to use this thing, that'll be 20$ more".

I seriously think Nintendo has lost the plot.... this is too much.
I hope they walk back the prices on games atleast.

*edit 2:

Imagine if Playstation 5, started asking for people to pay to play PS5 games, on the Pro at higher settings/resolutions?
This is basically what Nintendo is doing with these "upgrade packs".   Imagine the hate, they would get. Nintendo does it, nothing said by anyone?

Pay to chat online with your friends, too... like what?

feels like a "Aggrogant Sony PS3 moment" Nintendo version.
