MP4 and Pokemon are playable on Switch, a console that everyone owns (unlike the Wii U at that time). The third party won't move a console I think. It is really Mario kart alone in the first few months and DK from July.

I think that Mario Kart can carry 5 millions quickly, maybe even 6-7 millions, but after the console may run out of steam unless it become popular and trendy like the Switch did and Nintendo would have to bet heavily on the holiday sales.

Nintendo said that there will not be long term shortages and I believe them after this reveal.

Yeah agreed MP4 and Pokemon being on the Switch as well definitely hurts the situation further. Which is why I said they need 3D Mario AND a couple more big Nintendo games before the year is out to start to recover from this blunder.

Like they really need a stellar lineup the rest of the year to convince consumers the prices are worth it and to make the case that even if the launch outside of MKWorld was lackluster there will be lots of reasons to buy the system before the end of the year.

Mario Kart does look AMAZING, I'll say that! I'm more excited for Mario Kart than I possibly imagined I would be. And the third party support is fantastic, the question of 'will the Switch 2 be powerful enough to finally bring back major 3rd party support to Nintendo' is 100% answered now in the affirmative. For Switch-only gamers MK World looks great and the the third party support is huge. But for console/PC gamers Nintendo finally getting the third party games they already have access to is not a selling point at all. Some might be excited about DK (it does look cool) but most are just disappointed it isn't Mario - there is a much smaller base of people who are gonna be super pumped about a DK game than a Mario game because everyone knows Mario is going to be one of the best games of the gen, while with DK we can just say it looks nice and hopefully it'll be good.

Anyway, yep, totally agreed. The most exciting looking Mario Kart ever and the power of the system will provide for good launch sales in June, and DK might provide decent strength in July but nothing compared to what Mario would have done...then it's a big question mark. Yes the awesome third party support and cross-gen Prime4 & Pokemon is gonna give people a lot more to play assuming they aren't just going to buy those games on Switch or already have the 3rd parties on console/PC, but yeah those aren't really direct system sellers. All those games tell me that I'll want to get a Switch2 eventually, but Mario Kart is the only thing I've seen that makes me want to get the system soon, but being primarily a multiplayer game and given the prices of everything it is not nearly enough.

It really is a classic Nintendo blunder of doing so much right but then completely dropping the ball in one or two ways that really matter and make no business sense.

Personally if I were to get the system at launch I'd end up playing MK a ton for a few days and then just play it occasionally after that and just be like okay now I'm waiting until Prime 4 or Elden Ring basically. Needless to say I do not plan to get the system soon.

I can say personally than I went from a "maybe day one if there is a big release" to " I will wait at least until the end of the year or even 1-2 year". That' a massive hype loss.

Personally I think that if the console is struggling, Nintendo will be forced to make a move, notably regarding the price of games. It could be like the 3DS who was suffering massively from his price before Nintendo stepped in and cut it.

But it never really recovered from what it would have done if Nintendo had done the proper thing right away. It's always harder to right a ship than to launch it properly the first time. Sony saved the PS3 but it never did PS2 or PS4 numbers.

I could be wrong but I don't think Nintendo realize yet how much price can be a sticky point to people, especially when they feel robbed. Charging more than PS5 and PC games for weaker hardware, weaker graphics and techs and smaller scope is going to be very hard to ignore.

Who can understand than the next Mario and Luigi on Switch 2 is going to cost more than Rise of the Ronin or the next Death Stranding game?
