Nintendo sees the long term value. They've never made a bad MK game and the whole point of the series is replayability. People still buying MK8D 8 years after launch, and I've been replaying it still to this day after all these years. Absurd price, yes, but Nintendo sees how many people will be willing to buy it and for how long.
