Unless Nintendo make a U turn around the pricing of the games, I could see it selling around 50-60 millions. Could be less if the bad buzz materializes.  I think that reparing the damage of a bad launch and a bad buzz is the hardest. Sony succeded with the PS3 but it took a lot of time.

Less than every Nintendo handheld to date (since we don't have separate sales figures for Game Boy and Game Boy Color)?

I see the likelihood in the single digits that it can't outsell 3DS's 75.9 million units.

The 3DS and the games became very cheap.  If Nintendo can't lower the price of this console, it will sell less. When a produt is rejected by the mass market, the previous product doesn't matter anymore (like the wii u with the wii). Of course it won't be a disaster like the Wii U but I am not confident.
