It's understandable to not promise that every game will be backwards compatible. You never know if one game may be troublesome to get to an acceptable playable state for whatever reason, and then you may have a false advertisement lawsuits on your hand.
So it should be standard practice to not promise that.
PS5 did the same, but I have still not heard of a PS4 game that isn't backwards compatible.
I think the "Tarnished Edition" indicates that it will include the DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree.
There was at least one case where a subtitle on Switch indicated a downgraded version (I believe it was a FIFA game running on an older engine), but Elden Ring should not have any issues on Switch 2.
It's a cross-gen PS4 title which ran at 30 fps there, and I expect the Switch 2 version to run at 60fps while looking the same, which was the case for the PS5 version.
Although it wasn't stable 60fps, even on PS5 Pro for some reason. So we'll have to see how Switch 2 handles that. But I'm expecting it somewhere in that range.
Elden Ring is great. You can make it as difficult or easy as you want it to be, since they allow you to explore most of the world right from the start. And very few bosses require defeating in order to progress. Maybe just 2 or 3? Not counting the final boss segment.
So if you have trouble with a boss, you can go somewhere else, find powerful equipment out in the world, or take on any of the other 100+ bosses and then come back hours later and one-shot the boss that gave you trouble.
