Despite my love for the subject matter, I'm actually pretty bearish on the Zelda movie. A few reasons why:

  • Wes Ball is a competent director, but hardly an auteur
  • Nintendo is a very conservative company that doesn't want to risk any damage to its popular IPs, so I expect a safe, formulaic, middle-of-the-road production
  • The most recent Nintendo film production, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, was poor
  • When, if ever, has there been a good live-action video game-to-film adaptation?

And one reason to be optimistic:

  • Ball has said he wants to create something like a "live-action Miyazaki"
