I don’t see how unless Retro has essentially been developing two separate MP4s for years. Which could be possible given how long this thing has been in development. But what people keep not realizing is Switch 2 isn’t a PS4 or PS5 situation. It’s not making a jump that isn’t huge enough for it to be hard to develop cross-gen. It should be a huge leap over Switch, which is practically mid 00s level hardware. You don’t go from 360 games to PS4 Pro games very easily if you’re trying to develop for both. |
Perhaps "generational jump" was a bit too much - 'Gamecube Prime-to-Switch Prime Remaster' is much more accurate. The gameplay code is, fundamentally, the same. There would be no developing two separate versions for what I'm describing, just developing assets for the Switch 2 version.
But I don't think that Switch 2 will have its own version of the game after all. I think it's much more likely that Prime 4 gets a boost mode (ala XCX) that is unlockable on the new hardware. Hopefully, it's a serious boost mode though.
