I also enjoy Ubi games, they have some issues especially in recent years, but generally speaking they have consistently delivered enjoyable games for me for the last 17 or so years since I played the original Assassin's Creed. The Ubisoft hate definitely seems overblown to me, they are far from the worst of the game publishers (that has consistently been EA for the entire time people have been hating on Ubisoft).
But speaking as a price conscious gamer, people are definitely right that their games go on sale quickly, you can often find their games on sale for 40% or more off within 2 or 3 months, they discount their games faster than any other publisher. It does make paying full price for their games seem like a bad investment. And if you don't care about game ownership that much, and have enough free time to play through one of their games in less than a month, you can even play a brand new Ubisoft game via their Ubisoft+ subscription for $18 (they also have their yearly plan 40% off right now, so for $108 you can play every Ubisoft game available now and releasing within the next year, and the DLC's for those games, makes spending $70 for just AC Shadows seem like a much less wise investment, unless you know you will replay it multiple times over the years).
