Today it's pretty much about the ecosystem, rather than what system has the most doodads or it's specs (those days are pretty much gone by now).
This is why MS didn't topple Steam, or why Epic still cannot do so, no matter how much exclusivity cash they throw at any given publisher/dev, people like me are simply going to stick with what we have spent years investing in, because it makes logical sense for me to stick with what already works for me, as well as what I have spent the most money on (I love ESO, but I've invested far, far more money into WoW since 2004, making it by far my fave MMO of all time).
These days, if you're wanting to win people over, it has to be with what your ecosystem offers. It has to offer flexibility, feature-sets, affordability, reach and son on. If you just ignore all those corners, you end up missing a good chunk of customers who want something else they find valuable in an ecosystem.
From my personal experiences with previous consoles, Sony lost me around the PS3 era, when their console was sold at a much higher price point than the basic 360 package, my warranty ran out, so I was SoL. Then Sony took away sideloading Linux support, so what I originally paid for as a feature was thus taken away from me, giving me less value.
With MS I hopped off around the tail end of the 360 gen, and the start of the X1 gen, when Don fucked everything up. I was tired of Windows Store, I was screwed out of money twice from Win 10 store with Minecraft, and wasn't allowed to mod or tinker with Gears Remaster (that I paid for on Win 10 store), and thus was unable to sort out the perf issues the game had. Combine all of that with the previous GFWL taste in my mouth and I just wasn't vested in what MS was offering at that time, so I ended up moving to Steam/GoG and Battlenet full time.
Switch was and will be my last home/handheld console, and my experience with it was lacking in many ways (less games I wanted, poorer image quality and performance lacking, internal drive space being too small, games costing a ton, less discounts, etc), but to cut that short, Nintendo lost me due to lacking value on multiple fronts for me, and thus I see no reason for me to invest in their ecosystem anymore.
All in all, it's not just a "Only Xbox gets the hate/less attention", all 3 lose people here and there. For any of the 3 to ever earn me back, they would honestly have to do everything Steam/GoG do and more, but that won't really happen, because that would involve heavy alterations made to business plans, ignoring margins, and a change in how business is done generally (also if it works and makes money, business usually see no reason to alter their plans for that, which is why none of the 3 have adopted all of Steam/GoG's business models).
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
