Yikes, I just saw video comparing Avowed to Skyrim for some reason, small details like physics, NPC's schedules, shooting flying birds, etc. These people just don't get that what is essentially a AA game made by 100 devs in modern times can't be compared to Skyrim, a AAA game made by 100 devs in 2011. AAA's take substantially more developers now than they did then, the average AAA dev team is now 300+, and at the upper end of AAA dev team sizes can reach several times that many. Bethesda's latest, Starfield, had an internal development team of 350+ and 500+ including external partners, and still didn't come close to what Skyrim achieved with 100 devs in 2011. Comparing a modern game like Avowed made by 100 devs to Skyrim is just silly. You're just not going to get a Skyrim level of detail in 4 years of development with 100 devs these days.

Not only that, but they’re going for different kinds of RPGs. Skyrim is more going for the simulation, like what Kingdom Come: Deliverance is going for, whereas Avowed is focused more on the narrative like what Mass Effect is going for. You can’t do what Skyrim does in Mass Effect. They’re both RPGs, but the way they go about them is very different.

Another reason why I’ve grown really tired of the comparisons to Elder Scrolls. Avowed is essentially Fantasy Mass Effect.

Yeah, Avowed was definitely not designed as a full on simulation RPG like Bethesda makes, like Warhorse makes with Kingdom Come. And while the first Kingdom Come was AA (like 50 devs when they did the Kickstarter in 2014, up to around 100 when it released), the sequel is full on AAA. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2's internal team was up to 250 devs as of Spring last year, larger by release, plus a fair few external development partners. It also took nearly 6 years to make (July 2019-February 2025), compared to just over 4 years on Avowed after it's late 2021 reboot.
