A docked Switch 1 should be able to play 90% of Nintendo's first party Switch 2 games in portable mode. Upgrading a sytsem should be optional.

I'm one of those people who doesn't believe the Switch 2 will be anywhere near as powerful as many are claiming at least for portable mode, I think many are confusing development hardware spec with final retail spec which will be much lower but even with that in mind I don't think the original Switch will be able to match Switch 2 portable performance in docked mode. The CPU resources are much higher, there is going to be at least 8GB of memory and GPU performance in portable mode will be at least twice that of original Switch docked performance I would of thought.

I've never owned a Switch myself but have played Switch games emulated and instore on demonstration machines a bit. The last Nintendo console I had was the wii u. The sort of games I enjoy which are mainly first person shooters and games like Fallout and Skyrim just aren't really Nintendo type games or perform very badly on it. I'm not a huge fan of Zelda games and while a Mario fan tend to like the older games more. Retro gaming is a big part of my gaming. The Super Nintendo, N64 and Gamecube were my main consoles back in the day but the wii and wii u never were and of course I've never had a Switch. Nowadays I do most of my gaming on PC and Android devices but still use my PS4 Pro and Xbox One X a fair bit. I don't have a current Xbox or Playstation model either. I have a few PCs but none of them were expensive, The best graphics card I have in my PC is a RX580 which is about 6 Teraflops I think. It was a £40 graphics card from Aliexpress. If I want to run the latest games at a good frame rate I'm often forced to lower detail levels at 720p but most of the PC games I really enjoy are older games which even modded run well at 1080p with high detail levels. At the time of the wii my main gaming was the PS3 and the time of the wii u my main gaming was PS4.
