I never considered your take, but it's a possibility. Goku is among the heavy hitters characters who are S-tier in terms of popularity along with Mario, Mickey Mouse, Pikachu, etc. It never ocurred to me that Goku joining could steal the show and bring forth a significant flood of toxicity into the Smash community.
I am from latinamerica too. I watch Dragon Ball, I like it as much as the next guy. I know many fans IRL and I often read a lot of Goku discussion online (i find powerscaling particularly amusing for example and he's always involved and compared). It may sound rude, and I apologize for it, but I can confirm firsthand that the average DB fan who really takes the series seriously is usually a bit obnoxious about it.
I can't imagine Goku in a smash game to save my life because he's not a videogame character no matter how many times the series get adapted into a videogame. But if Goku could join anyway despite that, I'd still rather not.
