I think Trump blinked on both Canada and Mexico because he realised how difficult it would be to take them on at the same time, I kind of question if he will enforce any tariff now, despite claiming that there was nothing Canada or Mexico could do to delay the tariffs. His deal with Mexico to put 10,000 troops on the border...Was something Mexico is also already doing, both Mexico and America already have thousands of troops on the border and in relation to the size of the border won't change much at all, America likewise made a commitment to decrease the flow of guns into Mexico. Another stat is 80% of Fentanyl smuggling across the Southern Border was done by American citizens.
The markets believed Trump's tariffs were bluster too, as such it never reflected in the stock markets. Trump is a media personality first and foremost, his ego and image are the most important things to him and he knows how to con people. He creates fake issues out of nothing and then pretends he fixes the fake issues he created and his fanbase will never question it, Americans will shout how great they are. It was about a trade deficit, then it was about immigrants, then it was about drugs, only to achieve weak concessions and zero addressing of the trade deficit.
He's a guy who sets fire to a forest then puts it out, so he can claim he was a hero who saved the forest.
Wonder what the bullshit with EU he will claim to fix, not like he can attack us for immigrants or fentanyl although he blamed both those irrelevant things on Canada despite Canada having 43 pounds of fentanyl, so he is capable of making up any bullshit. I know he will likely try to push America's shitty chlorinated chicken onto UK and likely attack Europe's food safety standards to try to pressure us into accepting America's shitty lack of standards and corporations. Maybe he'll make a claim that he got Europe to buy American oil, despite Europe already heavily buying American oil due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
But I don't think giving Trump these symbolic victories is smart in the long run, he will keep pushing and pushing, like Putin, appeasement only emboldens the fascist. At some point we have to say fuck off, I can't really blame Trudeau for this one though, it buys Canada some time and he didn't give Trump shit, Lol. Completely outplayed him but he will be back in 30 days from now.
2. A few symbolic concessions on both sides & quick de-escalation. Again, Trump wants headlines saying he's strong, nothing more. https://t.co/nrEdrWbv7j

4. Exact same situation in Colombia -- a kayfabe fight, meaningless concessions, Trump claims a win (helped by credulous USA press). https://t.co/PYfFA1BRWC

It seems like the trick to negotiating with Trump is to realize he doesn’t have any idea what the current facts are.
