The problem is that too many countries were against this. Sweden for instance always said that NATO's there for that (even before they were in NATO). The question is if that could be reversed now.

Also NATO and the US naturally also strongly discourage the creation of an European Army. It's funny that they want Europe to shoulder a bigger share of the costs and defense of Europe, but when they actually want to do so, the US say no...

Also funny how the smallest partner was the first one to say out loud that we'd need an European army. Just after Trump's reelection, he said that Europe needs to stand on their own feet, but he went even further than most: He's in favor of Europe, as a union, getting a permanent seat at the UN security council.
